Problem: Every 5-20 mins, Nortons cpu usage increases from 0-1% to 12-14% for 5-10 mins. If it is, disable this setting. also detect Steam games as malware (see the post here on the Steam forum).  These intermittent periods of high CPU activity could occur when NIS realtime protection "wakes up" to monitor ccsvchst exe has generated errors...

For me this solution lasts an hour or so. How did you deny access? Its not okay to peg cpu's at 85-100% causing a lot more noise and heat. Me and others continue to have high cpu spikes while running a full scan. I opened probably 100 tabs at one time to test the issue.

I don't know much else about this so IDK if I can say access it's logs autoprotect: only did this for a few mins and turn off access to the internet. Its not acceptable either. First 30 mins after install were good. Fwiw I am running Kaspersky Internet Security at the moment, and on a full scan IT pegs the CPU at 100% at times, so Norton is not alone there. Did this article resolve your issue? Some other programs induce this behaviour too such as word. I don't want to bother with it any more. Running programs such as chrome, video games, media players (except itunes and steam) and office programs "pauses" this usage and resumes when the program(s) are closed. Can only be seen with task manager in running processes but nothing can be done to it. Did this before and after reinstall of Windows. can't stop process. Is there anyway to monitor what NIS is using/scanning?

Also the RAM is full but the Recourse monitor doesn't attribute this to any program (I'd assume nis.exe is to blame).  The Task manager doesn't even notice nis.exe. I uninstalled it. Bad I am ditching, NEVER go back to Norton/Symantec anything. That’s not just for Norton – many other security products have the same situation.
